Remember Who’s Holding it All Together

It’s exhausting isn’t it? You know…just all of it.

The news. COVID. Rumors of another lockdown. Lockdowns. A second wave of “panic buying”. I love this insight from El Arroyo (a local Austin Mexican food restaurant with a road sign that has a personality of its own).

However, it’s not just those things is it? It’s all the other things as well. Political unrest. Infighting. Throw in the holidays and the stress level is on the rise. Mental health challenges. Anxiety.

It’s the rising death counts. The deaths that are creeping closer. Friend’s family members. Friends. Our family.

Remember when we thought the lockdown was going to be 2 weeks? Those were the days…

I was circling the drain of my own negativity when God reminded me of this truth early this morning – He is the One who holds it all together.

Our future is not held captive by COVID. It’s held captive by the word of God. Our days are not determined by politicians, but by the sovereign plan of God (though we should heed wise counsel). We are not being sustained by lockdowns or restrictions, but by his powerful word (again…don’t forget the wisdom piece).

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. Hebrews 1:3

In this moment, it can be tough to see how God is working. It’s easy to be overwhelmed, exhausted and to simply lose sight of who’s running the show. Yet, we must remember that God is ruling, reigning, sustaining and holding all things together by his powerful word.

Friends, your 2020 plan might have been thrown off course, but know without a shadow of a doubt, God’s plan has not been. As you go about your day it might feel like it’s all falling apart, but don’t forget who’s holding together.

  1. One of our dear pastors from decades ago used to say, “If you feel like you’re hanging onto the end of your rope, I dare you to let go and see Who is REALLY hanging on!!!” 😊 Thanks, Scott, for your words of encouragement and your transparency! Keep it up, Bro👍
