Family Discovers Severe Mercy

This past Sunday, January 25th, our family was honored to be featured in my hometown newspaper “The Williamson County Sun”. Our talented friend, Michael Freeman, skillfully told Davy’s heroic battle against CDH and how God’s fingerprints were found throughout the journey.

The Day of the Interview

The funny thing is that when Michael came to interview Chels and I, so we could share our story to him, the day was a hot mess. Davy had an extremely rough morning, our house was a complete disaster, and quite honestly, the interview had simply slipped our mind.

When Michael rung the door bell, Chels and I froze, and instantly we both remembered we had the interview! Mass chaos and the fireman’s drill quickly ensued. Chels rushed to the bedroom to start getting ready and I went to go answer the door. However, as I opened the door I realized I was still wearing my robe and my hair looked like the picture below.

(Yea, that’s what my hair looked like…)

I apologized incessantly through an embarrassed and scattered emotional posture, but Michael was extremely gracious to us. Chels and I changed speedily and jumped right into the interview. The time itself was encouraging as we recounted God’s faithfulness, the care of our medical staff and the sacrificial love of our community. As it states in Isaiah 63:7, I will recount the steadfast love of the LORD, the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD has granted us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion, according to the abundance of his steadfast love.” In telling Davy’s story Chels and I were stirred to remember the steadfast love of the Lord and the goodness and compassion he has had towards us.

Family Discovers Severe Mercy

My mom called me the day the paper had come out and asked me if I knew the title of the column. I responded that I didn’t know and she shared that it was titled, “Family Discovers Severe Mercy”. I loved everything about that title.

I love it because the book, A Severe Mercy, is where we got Davy’s name from (which you can read about here). I love it because when that phrase is spoken to my soul it doesn’t return void. Lastly, I love it because that’s exactly how I would have described our journey – a discovery of severe mercy.

Photo Session

The last thing Michael needed were some photos for the story; however, Davy wasn’t going to have it that day, so we told him that we’d get him pictures another day. My brother and friend, Nijalon Dunn, was kind enough to come snap a few photos (very last minute I must add) and they came out great! (You can check out some of Nijalon’s other photos here).

Davy’s Fundraiser

Lastly, Michael highlighted Davy’s fundraiser, which is happening tomorrow night! We’re so grateful and humbled that people would care about us they way they have. It has been a testament to the amazing family and friends we have in our lives. If you would like to come to the event or donate to Davy’s medical funds you can do so at the link below.

Lastly, know that we are so blessed by every single one of you that have been on this journey with us, whether we know you personally or not. All of the prayers, encouragements, and support have been felt. I pray that one day I get to meet all of you in person with Davy in tow and we get to recount the story of discovering a severe mercy with you.
