When God Performs Miracles

Davy, our Little Miracle

I believe that our Davy girl is a miracle.

At week 20 we knew that there was a 50% chance she wouldn’t make it. We begged God that He would bring Davy full term and give her a fighting chance. God answered that prayer and Chelsea carried her for 42 weeks (Maybe we should have prayed for Davy’s health and only 36 weeks carrying! Be careful what you pray for people! Ha!).

Over and over again God has been faithful. Even in the midst of unanswered prayers, He has reminded us that He is in control (Isa. 55:8-11), He’s a good Father (Matt. 7:11), He’s loving (1 John 4:8) and his purpose will work out for the good (Rom. 8:28).

Miracles and Answered Prayers

As you know, we’ve been asking all of you to pray that Davy’s PDA would close or we would have to go in for a heart procedure this Friday to manually close it. We’ve been asking you to pray because PDA’s typically don’t close once they’ve been reopened – as in Davy’s case – and we needed supernatural intervention.

When we asked the doctors whether it would even be possible for the PDA to close on its own, they told us “absolutely not” and “that it never happens”. So what did we do? We asked God to do what “never happens” because nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37) and you joined us in that prayer.

This morning we went in for the daily rounds with the doctors, hopeful and expectant to hear that God had performed a miracle. When we asked about Davy’s PDA they said these words, “The PDA is substantially smaller and seems to be closing on its own, so we won’t be going in for a procedure on Friday.”

WHAT?!?! The very thing that would “absolutely not” close and “never happens” actually was happening! NOTHING is impossible with God!

Chelsea and I just looked at each other grinning from ear to ear. We knew that God was performing another miracle in our midst. Our hearts cried out as the Psalmist did in Psalm 66, “But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer.

We wanted to let you know that God is still in the business of performing miracles and listening to the prayers of His people. Thank you for continuing to journey alongside us, share our burdens, and for your prayers.

Prayer Requests

  • Full Closure of the PDA – Ask that God would finish out the prayer by fully closing the PDA valve, so there won’t be any future repercussions.
  • Davy’s Lungs – Davy continues to struggle with the development of her lungs. Pray that God would continue to heal her lungs and make them stronger.
  • Extubation – The doctors talked about potentially extubating Davy girl this Thursday! Pray for their wisdom and Davy’s ability to handle it well.
